Appetizers for the Game That Can't Be Named

Sunday’s a pretty big day for two things: football and food. I’m not much of a sports dude, but I do know a thing or two about feeding people. While I might be the man behind the man behind the sandwich, my expertise doesn’t stop at sandwiches.

If you’re planning a party for the game that can not be named, check out some tasty recipes below, and good news, they all use yummy Jimmy John’s grub!

Jimmy John's Appetizers

1. Jimmy John’s Day Old Bread Cheese Tray

Feeling fancy but short on time? Grab a few cheeses to top some Jimmy John’s Day Old Bread (available at your local JJ’s until it’s gone!) and make yourself a super classy cheese tray.…well I mean, as classy as you can be while drinking beer and watching football.

This one has some delicious Goat Gouda, Rosemary Manchego, and Brie cheeses!

2. Jimmy John’s Oven Fried Pickle Spears

If you haven’t heard, Jimmy John’s Pickles are a pretty big dill 😏 and the only way to make them better than Mother Nature did is by covering them in carbs and dipping ‘em in ranch. (It’s true.)

Grab a couple Pickle Buckets from your local JJ’s (each one has 16 spears) and check out this super easy but yummy recipe for Oven Fried Pickle Spears:

3. Day Old Bread Pizza

This one’s a classic that never fails. Everyone loves pizza, simple as that.

All you need are a couple sticks of Day Old Bread, pizza sauce and your favorite toppings!

4. Buffalo Chicken Dip

It’s like buffalo wings but slightly less messy and you can use bread as a spoon. Doesn’t get better than that, my friends.

Here’s how to make it: and don’t forget to grab some Day Old Bread to dip in it!

5. Spinach & Artichoke Day Old Bread

People love Spinach & Artichoke dip, but no one likes double dippers (keep that in mind next time you go in for seconds.) Here’s a way to curb the problem: stack your dip right on top of some Day Old Bread, pile it with cheese and bake!

It’ll make your heart and your tummy happy!

6. Triple Chocolate Chunk cheesecake bites

The name says it all and it’s alllllll delicious. You can use your favorite cheese cake recipe (or this one: just skip the crust and use Jimmy John’s Triple Chocolate Chunk cookies instead!

If you just don’t feel like cooking, I’m here for ya. Grab a 12 or 24 pack of Mini Jimmys, some party platters or boxed lunches and you’re done!

Happy Cheese Lover's Day!

It’s National Cheese Lover’s Day 🧀

Jimmy John's Provolone Cheese

But let’s be honest, what day isn’t? Cheese is the ultimate ultimate. It makes the bad days good and the good days even better. I’ll be honest, if I had to chose between cheese and people, well...

And here’s why:

Cheese doesn’t leave you on read.

Cheese Balls

Remember that time cheese made you go out on a Saturday night after you were already in your pajamas in the middle of a Netflix binge? Probably not, because it didn’t happen.

People get mad if you try to melt them and then dip chips in them. Cheese doesn’t.

Cheese doesn’t look at all your Instagram photos but never like them. (cuz it doesn’t have eyes.)

Cheese will always let you be big spoon.

Cheese doesn’t think it’s better than anyone, it can hold its own at a wine tasting but isn’t too good for a pizza place, ya know?

Cheese doesn’t talk about you behind your back.

Cheese will binge watch Game of Thrones with you and won’t even try to hit on you

If something’s a little bland, you just sprinkle some cheese on it and BAM!, the flavor train’s pulling into the station. (ProTip- works on people too.)

Cheese will always be there to comfort you after a long day.

In conclusion:

Jimmy John's cheese

Sky's the Limit

Jimmy John's employee

"I’m very proud of how quickly that I have moved up at Jimmy John’s. I do my best to lead by example by working my butt off and having fun while doing it. If the store needs help on my day off, I come in to help. When my team needs help, I’m there for them. I just enjoy being around my JJ’s family. We put our aces in the right places which allows me to focus on slicing and stretching bread. We rock it out while also taking care of our customers. The support of my team, my family and my fiancé have given me so much confidence, that the sky’s the limit for me at JJ’s!"

Cheers to 34 more!

Today in 1983, Jimmy John's owner Jimmy John Liautaud opened the doors for the first time to the students at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL. He chose Charleston because his brother Greg, and two cousins went to EIU, and the location was surrounded by bars. Perfect! Students drink, they get hungry, Jimmy John's would stay open late and feed them. Boom!

Jimmy John found a site- a two car garage that had been remodeled into a pizza joint which eventually closed down. From what started out as one 19 year old dude making subs in a converted garage, to over 2,600 locations across the U.S., here’s a little look back at how we got started!

Man, we're getting old.

Charleston, IL - January 13, 1983

Jimmy John’s Owner, Jimmy John Liautaud’s Original Store

Jimmy John Liautaud's first store was a hole in the wall near EIU that Jimmy lived in for 10 years. Oh EIU - nothin like Mother's and Ike's cheeseburgers. Good times! Old Style beer was still cool then, wasn't it?

Jimmy John’s Original Store – Then & Now

Before you head to Charleston to visit the OG Jimmy John's, the place was falling apart and Jimmy had to move it. 👎 Boo.

Jimmy John’s Charleston Store Museum

BUT, don't worry, the new location in Charleston is pretty sweet and still has tons of history, complete with it's own museum that you should definitely check out!

Jimmy John Liautaud’s 1983 Menu

The menu in 1983 was simple: 4 sandwiches delivered to your dorm by Jimmy himself. Every college kid's dream!

Jimmy John’s Owner Jimmy John Liautaud with His Sandwiches

Yep, that's 19 year old Jimmy John Liautaud. JJ may have changed a little in 34 years, but his sammies haven't! With a few more sandwiches added to the menu, and a lot more stores under his belt, Jimmy built the sandwich empire that you know and love today.

Keepin it Old School:

Jimmy John Liautaud’s Delivery Van in 1985

In 1985, delivery became a means of survival. Instead of bringing the party to Jimmy John's, Jimmy would bring sandwiches to the party! We didn't invent sandwich delivery but we sure did perfect it eh?

Jimmy John’s Opens More Stores

Jimmy John’s Signature Style

By 1994, Jimmy had 10 sub shops. Ten years, ten stores, and Jimmy was only 30 years old! America, what a country!

Jimmy John’s Serving the CustomerJimmy never made a business plan and never intended for Jimmy John's to be as big as it is today. He learned that the biz isn't sexy, it's hard work, it's long hours, and it can be brutal. He worked late nights and weekends and took the toughest jobs for himself. He installed a stereo system, played loud music, and created a very cool work environment. (It still is to this day, if you're looking for a job *wink wink*)

Jimmy John Liautaud’s First Store Today

Thanks for taking a walk down Jimmy John's memory lane. Same sandwich, same story, 34 years in biz today!

Thanks for 34 years of love America! Cheers to 34 more!

It's Simple!

"I’m a Catering Manager and have been with Jimmy John’s for 6 ½ years. It makes me happy and proud that our stores’ Catering Managers are growing the business by educating customers about the brand and generating catering sales. My goal is to make my team’s day better than mine. We make sandwiches…so have fun with it! It’s simple and people like simple. I love my job and I love JJ’s."

Hard work pays off

Jimmy John's Employee

"At Jimmy John’s, our goal is to be the best, not the biggest. That’s why we serve made-from-scratch food with quality ingredients. Our veggies and meats are brought in fresh and sliced daily. We bake our French bread all-day, every day. We do everything fast and we give our customers’ great service! It’s hard work, but it gives me a lot of pride. I’m proud of my team and I feel great about myself. At the end of a busy day, I feel like we have accomplished something, something big. Hard work pays off!"
