Meet a Rockstar: Slava Cazacu


Slava is from Moldova, former USSR in Eastern Europe, population 4 million. He moved to the US in 2006 to attend college in Duluth, MN and was introduced to Jimmy John's in 2007. Slava loved the energy, quality, speed and consistent service at Jimmy John's. He was sold. In 2009 he joined the Jimmy John's team as an Accounting Intern, and shortly after became the Internal Operations Auditor. Here is his rockstar story:

When and where was your first job? Freshman year of college at the cafeteria

What do you love most about your job? The team and culture of the company

What do you know now that you wish you knew then? Time is a lot more valuable

Using Hashtags to Find a #Job

Social Media isn’t just for interacting with your buddies anymore. These days, it is a key element of almost every business’s marketing plan—it’s fast, to-the-point, and most importantly, its free!

Many companies have turned to social media when searching for prospective employees. For example, companies tweet job openings with hashtags like #job, #jobopening, or #hiring. Twitter users in need of a job can search these hashtags and see who’s hiring.

Twitter and Facebook (which also uses hashtags) are great tools for social media rockstars to find jobs they may have never known existed. One click can open a door to thousands of job openings. Pretty cool, huh?

Meet a Rockstar: Brittany Hiner


From HR Intern to HR Coordinator in just 3 months, Brittany is the definition of a Jimmy John's Rockstar. As an intern Brittany took in the Jimmy John's culture and learned the ins and outs of HR. Now she assists with benefit enrollments, new hire paperwork, drug testing, unemployment, workers compensation, recruitment for JJE & JJF employees. Check out Brittany's story:

When and where was your first job? Hostess at TGI Fridays, summer of 2006

What do you love most about your job? I love when I am able to help make things more efficient for the store management so they can get back to focusing on operations.

What do you know now that you wish you knew then? I wish I knew how vital communication is to be successful in personal and work life.

What is your favorite JJ's sandwich? Slim 1 (pickiest eater on the planet)

Best advice to future JJ's Rockstars? Always go the extra mile and have confidence in everything you do.

Stand Out With Vine


Jimmy John’s loves freaky fast, so it’s no surprise that our fans love sharing Vines of themselves enjoying JJ’s! Vine videos are great for sharing fun, 6-second glimpses of what it’s like to be part of the JJ team—but they also may be a rising trend for job hunting.

Nowadays, it is common for employers to check out their prospective employees' social media sites to get a feel for what they’re like. Journalist Dawn Siff used this to her advantage by creating the first Vine Resume—check it out!

Though it may not be the determining factor for landing a job, Vine allows job seekers to be creative and stand out from the rest. Creating a “Vine Resume” also shows that you are being proactive in your job hunt and care about first impressions.

Meet a Rockstar: Sammy Jo Mahler


Meet Sammy Jo. She has been rocking out sammies on Jimmy John's Guerilla Marketing team for almost 2 years, and has already moved her way up to JJ's Construction Department. Sammy Jo's hard work and determination got her to where she is today. Check out her rockstar story!

How did you get started at JJ's? I was working for a call center in the Chicago suburbs and I hated it. A good friend I went to college with was a Guerilla [Marketer] at the time and she called me on her way to the airport one Sunday afternoon. She asked me about my job and if I would be interested in traveling and promoting Jimmy John's like she was. She broke down the pros and cons of the job and I immediately forwarded her my resume. A couple of interviews later - I traded in my boring job and joined the JJ crew, it was the best decision I have ever made.

What do you love most about your job? The atmosphere and the people. It is a great feeling when you enjoy going to work.

What do you know now that you wish you knew then? Never let anyone intimidate you and never be satisfied.

What is your favorite JJ's sandwich? #16 - TBO, easy mayo, add avo, cukes & peppers with EZ sauce

If you could describe yourself in a #hashtag, what would it be? #ChallengeAccepted

Best advice to future JJ's Rockstars? "The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves." Honestly: be outgoing, be yourself and have fun. Do every job with a smile, no matter how small, or mundane you may think it is. Hard work doesn't go un-noticed and that, combined with a great attitude, will take you far.


Speedy Eats, Speedy Tweets! (JJ Social Media)


The freshest, the bestest, the fastest – Jimmy John’s! Unlike any other sub delivery shop, JJ’s is freaky fast and freaky good!

As JJ’s social media intern, I have gotten a taste of just how fast they are, whether on the make-line or at a computer. The world of likes and hashtags is fast-paced, and who better to master it than Jimmy John’s!

Every day, tweets and Facebook comments come rolling in at high speed, and it is my duty to help manage them. Comments and issues are responded to with lightning speed! Jimmy John’s strives to keep the customer happy, and to make things right if someone is upset. Now that’s customer service!

Not only does Jimmy John’s try to fix every customer issue on Facebook and Twitter, but it’s also always a pleasure to make someone’s day with a shout out. Share the love!

By responding quickly to customer comments and complaints, Jimmy John’s shows that customers come first!  Good or bad, Jimmy John’s does social media fast, and they do it right. And yes, Jimmy, the man behind the sandwich, really does tweet--he's even got some sweet rhymes! Here’s one:

Meet a Rockstar: Bob Morena


Bob Morena has been with the Jimmy John's family for 14 years, starting as a delivery driver in college. He has worked his way up to Director of Franchise Development, so if you want to buy a Jimmy John's franchise, give Bobby a call at 800-546-6904!


When and where was your first job? Dishwasher at a local diner in Lansing, MI at age 14

What other positions have you had at JJ's? Franchise Sales Associate

What do you love most about your job? I know where I stand. At Jimmy John's, everything is measured. Specific goals are given, and it is noticed when you achieve them. (or if you don't!)

What do you know now that you wish you knew then? The key to selling is listening

What is your favorite JJ's sandwich? Italian Night Club

Best advice to future JJ Rockstars? When first starting out it's all about punctuality, attitude and extra effort. Outwork your peers. Those that sacrifice the most and are willing to go above and beyond achieve the best results, get noticed, and create their own luck.

3 Food-For-Thought Jimmy Quotes




Interning at Jimmy John’s has given me more than just career experience. Jimmy’s words have motivated me to make a few changes in my life. Here are a few Jimmy quotes that I hope will motivate you, too:

1. “Be real. Be yourself.”

One thing that amazes me about Jimmy John’s is how real they are. Nothing is sugar-coated, and there are no surprises. Everyone appreciates honesty in a business, and that is why Jimmy John’s is on top.

2. “Do it better than most, do it faster than most, work harder than most, be more successful than most.”

Jimmy John’s slogan is “freaky-fast” for a reason. There is no room for half-ass effort at JJ’s—Rockstars only!
