Throwback Thursday - The First JJ's!

10/17/2013

OriginalJJs

JJ Rockstars, in honor of Throwback Thursday, I had to share where it all began!

In 1983 and at 19 years old, Jimmy John Liautaud opened his first sandwich shop in Charleston, Illinois with a $25,000 loan from his dad.

Whether he was working the store from open to close or delivering samples across campus, Jimmy has always known that to be the best, you must keep it simple, keep it real, and keep working! His story is an example of how good things come to those who are willing to work very, very hard.

Today, Jimmy John’s has over 1,700 stores opened in 43 states. Not bad for a kid who graduated second to last in his high school class! How cool does it feel to be part of the JJ team?

Be proud to be a rockstar!

Meet Nic, JJ's "everything that doesn't fall within a specific department" Rockstar. 11 years ago Nic answered an ad in the Daily Illini looking for summer help at a lodge in Wisconsin. That is where he started working for Jimmy, the founder of Jimmy John's. They stayed in touch, and after Nic graduated, he was offered a job as Assistant Controller at JJ Headquarters the very next year. Today Nic is the COO of Jimmy John's, and here is his Rockstar story:

My Favorite JJ's Bread Recipe

10/03/2013

I don’t know about you rockstars, but one of my favorite parts about a JJ’s sammie is the yummy French bread. After all, perfect bread makes for a perfect sandwich!

The great thing about Jimmy John’s is that they sell their day-old, yummy French bread for around 50 cents—that’s what I call a deal! Here is my favorite recipe to use with JJ’s day-old bread:

JJ’s French Toast

Step1Ingredients

  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Day old JJ’s French bread
  • Fresh blueberries

Preparation:

Step 1: Crack eggs into a small bowl and stir well with a whisk.

Step 2: Stir in milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract and salt.

Step 3: Slice JJ’s french bread at an angle.

Step8

Step 4: Using a fork, dip each piece of bread into the egg mixture until submerged.

Step 5: Arrange bread pieces in a pan and cook on medium heat for approximately 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Step 6: Serve with fresh blueberries, honey, sliced almonds and lemon zest. Yum!

Give it a try!
